Dreams Come True

Hitoshi Murayama

IPMU is an ambitious project of its own. We are trying to build a first-rate research institution from scratch in a very short time. We need scientists from different disciplines –astronomy, physics, and mathematics– to work together towards the common goal of solving cosmic mysteries. We want to make the place truly international in a way not happened before in Japan. All of these ambitions need one important common ingredient: an attractive and carefully designed place to work.

Recruitment and Retention (From IPMU News No. 4)

The most important element to build an excellent research institution is people. The institution is only as good as its scientific membership. As I told you in the previous issue of IPMU News, we exceeded our goal of having a half of our scientific staff to come from abroad. More importantly people we hired are of very high quality, coming from leading universities like Harvard, Princeton, Max-Plank institute, Kyoto University, University College London, or my own Berkeley.
