Focus week on
Determination of Masses and Spins of New Particles at the LHC

The Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe (IPMU) at the Kashiwa campus of the University of Tokyo will host a focus week on "Determination of Masses and Spins of New Particles at the LHC" on 16-20 March 2009.

If new particles are discovered at the LHC, the main challenge will be to find which of the many competing models (SUSY, extra dimensions, compositeness, ...) correctly predicts their properties: most fundamentally, their masses and spins. The aim of this meeting will be to review and compare the many methods for mass and spin determination that have been proposed over the past few years, in order to extract as much information as possible from the forthcoming LHC data.

The meeting will be a small workshop for experts (around 30 people). Confirmed participants so far include
  • Ben Allanach(DAMTP, University of Cambridge)
  • Johan Alwall (SLAC)
  • Alan Barr (Oxford)
  • Wonsang Cho (SNU)
  • Kiwoon Choi (KAIST)
