Faculty Position in Astrophysics and Cosmology
Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe (Kavli IPMU), The University of Tokyo, invites applicants for faculty position(s) in broad research areas of theoretical, computational, observational astrophysics and cosmology. The research areas include (but are not limited to) galaxy formation and evolution, large-scale structure of the Universe, the cosmic microwave background, physical cosmology, dark matter, dark energy, multi-messenger astronomy, and big data or advanced statistics driven astrophysics/cosmology.
The Kavli IPMU has the ambitious goal to discover the fundamental laws of nature and to understand the universe from the synergistic perspectives of mathematics, theoretical and experimental physics, astronomy, and statistics. It is an international research institute with English as its official language established in October 2007. The Kavli IPMU is a leading institute of two major imaging and spectroscopic surveys, Hyper Suprime-Cam and Prime Focus Spectrograph, at the 8.2m Subaru telescope, and is heavily involved in the next-generation CMB satellite mission, LiteBIRD.
The applicants would be encouraged to participate actively in these projects. Junior candidates will be considered for a tenure-track assistant professorship, while exceptionally qualified candidates will be considered for a tenured associate or full professor position. The successful candidate is expected to create a strong synergy between cosmology, astrophysics, and physics to pursue our goal.
We seek to build a diverse, highly interactive membership, and therefore female and international applicants are strongly encouraged to apply. We have a policy to allow full-time members to travel internationally for between 1 and 3 months every year to build a global network for the Institute.
Kavli IPMU is on the Kashiwa campus of the University of Tokyo. More than a half of its full-time scientific members come from outside Japan. The application should include a CV, research statement, publication list, and at least five letters of recommendation. They should be uploaded at https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/16657. The search is open until filled, but for full consideration please submit the applications and letters by Nov 15, 2020.
