Yuji Tachikawa, Associate Professor at The University Of Tokyo
Yuji Tachikawa, an associate professor at the University of Tokyo and an affiliate member of Kavli IPMU, received the 29th Nishinomiya-Yukawa Memorial Prize at an awards ceremony held on October 31, 2014 at the Nishinomiya City Hall. The purpose of the Nishinomiya-Yukawa Memorial Prize is to recognize young scientists (under the age of 40) with distinguished achievement in the field of theoretical physics.
Tachikawa was honored for “the discovery of the correspondence relation between quantum field theories in different dimensions”. In 2010, in collaboration with Dr. Alday and Dr. Gaiotto, he found that certain quantities of four-dimensional and two-dimensional quantum field theories, known and computed before, are indeed equal to each other. This achievement provided a major breakthrough in the field of quantum field theory and has contributed superstring theory, which is a strong candidate for a unified theory that includes gravity.
In July 2014, Tachikawa was also selected as the recipient of the Hermann Weyl Prize due to his contributions to supersymmetric quantum field theories.
