Overview

From October 25 (Fri) to 26 (Sat), 2019, the University of Tokyo Kashiwa Campus will open its doors to the public for this year's Open Campus, "Reiwa Era of Science at Kashiwa!"

  • Date: 10AM - 4:30PM, October 25 (Fri) and October 26 (Sat)
  • Venue: Kashiwa Campus, The University of Tokyo
  • Access: A free shuttle bus will be available from Kashiwa-no-ha Campus Station (Tsukuba Express line)
  • Admission: Free

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Parking at Kashiwa campus will be closed off during Open Campus. Also, please refrain from parking at shopping centre car parks neighboring Kashiwa Campus. Please use public transport, or bicycle or foot.

Backstage Tour of Kavli IPMU
 

 

The award-winning design of the Kavli IPMU building has been praised for creating a home for scientists that allows people from different countries and different fields to get to know one another. Join one of our tours to get a behind-the-scenes look.

  • Running time: 30 - 40 minutes
  • When:
    • Oct 25 (Fri) 11AM, Noon, 2:30PM, 3:30PM
    • Oct 26 (Sat) 11AM, 12:30PM, 1:15PM, 2PM, 2:45PM, 3:30PM
  • Starting point: Kavli IPMU Reception (1F)
  • Limit: 20 people per tour. Tickets are available at the Kavli IPMU reception and will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis.

Peek inside Laboratory B!

Specially for Open Campus, the doors to Laboratory B will be open to the public. See what goes on inside.

  • When:
    • Oct 25 (Fri) 1PM - 4:30PM
    • Oct 26 (Sat) 10AM - 4:30PM
  • Where: Laboratory B (1F)

Particles! Gotta catch 'em all

Find all of the elementary particles hiding inside the Kavli IPMU!

  • When: 10AM - 4:30PM, Oct 25 & 26
  • Where: Ground floor area (1F)

 * There will be a special prize for those who can find all particles. Prizes will be given to small children on a first come, first serve basis.
   * This activity requires participants to use their own smartphone to download the Kavli IPMU app.

 


Touch the Mathematical World through Soap Bubbles

Put your bubble-making skills to the test and see if you can make all the differently shaped bubbles designed by our mathematicians.

  • Running time: 10 minutes

  • Where: Seminar Room A

 


Math Puzzle

Create your own patterns with our math puzzle. What kind of shapes can you make? Can you find a mathematical explanation to your creation?

* Other exhibits: A replica of the Hyper Suprime-Cam is located outside the Kavli IPMU building. A photo take by the Hyper Supreme-Cam is on display on the 1F. The Belle II Experiment's Silicon Vertex Detector is on display on the 1F.
