Last Friday, Kavli Foundation President Cynthia Friend visited The University of Tokyo Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe (Kavli IPMU, WPI) on Kashiwa campus, together with Kavli Foundation Director of Science and Society Brooke Smith.

After hearing an introduction about the Kavli IPMU and its research from Director Jun’ichi Yokoyama, Friend also heard updates from Kavli IPMU researchers who currently receive funds from the Kavli Foundation.

Friend was then shown to the 3rd floor Piazza Fujiwara, where she took part in tea time. With experience as a researcher herself, including being the first female professor in chemistry at Harvard University, Friend enjoyed having conversations with Kavli IPMU researchers about their work and research environment.
