The University of Tokyo Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe (Kavli IPMU, WPI) Project Professor Misao Sasaki has been named a 2025 Fellow by the International Society on General Relativity & Gravitation (ISGRG).
“I am extremely honored to have been chosen as an ISGRG Fellow. I want to use this as motivation to keep advancing research,” said Sasaki.
The ISGRG Fellowship was established by the ISGRG in 2010, and is awarded every three years to researchers who have made significant contributions internationally to studying general relativity and gravity.
Sasaki has been recognized, “for numerous contributions to broad areas in general relativity, including black hole perturbation theory, equations of motion of finite mass bodies, cosmological perturbation theory, and inflationary cosmology.” This includes his work with developing the Sasaki-Nakamura equation, which is important when calculating gravitational waves that have been emitted when particles fall into a black hole, and in finding the Mukhanov-Sasaki variable that describes the largescale effect of the initial quantum fluctuations in the inflationary universe. His work has for many years helped researchers studying gravitational waves, gravity, and the early universe.
An award ceremony will be held in July 2025 during the 24th International Conference on General Relativity and Gravitation.
