Introduction: In this talk, we will explore the vast range of sizes found in the Universe, from black holes just a few meters across to the immense scale of the observable cosmos. We will journey through the evolution of the Universe, tracing its expansion from a singular point at the Big Bang to its current form, capable of hosting everything we see
today. Along the way, we will delve into the historical context of key discoveries that have shaped our understanding of cosmic scales. We will examine structures ranging from stars within our solar system and galaxies in diverse environments to the vast cosmic web, which contains clusters, filaments, walls, and immense voids. Finally, we will uncover how these large-scale structures encode clues about the enigmatic dark matter and dark energy—mysterious components that may ultimately determine the fate of the Universe.
About the speaker:
Joaquin joined Kavli IPMU in 2022. His field of expertise is cosmology.
