IPMU celebrated its 3rd anniversary on October 1st, 2010.
The new research building with an unique design, called “Spiraling Academia” has been completed. It represents an ideal environment for researchers; everywhere inside the building, researchers feel a comfortable atmosphere that is conductive to interaction and discussion.
In terms of the experiment, the project, called “SuMiRe” (Subaru Measurement of Images and Redshifts) was officially launched and the XMASS experiment which has been conducted jointly with the ICRR. IPMU established a satellite in the Department of Physics on UC Berkeley Campus, and is conducting a joint project using the satellite with the Department of Physics of UCB, involving particle physics, cosmology, and mathematics. Internationalization of the institute has further been promoted and made an excellent progress in research aspect.
On October 5th, 2010, at the IPMU research building, the progress and future guidelines were addressed by the director’s “State of IPMU” speech at the all-hands meeting for IPMU members and PI meeting for principle investigators which was followed by a big birthday celebrating its 3rd anniversary.
