Kavli IPMU, along with ISAS/JAXA (Institute of Space and Astronautical Science/Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) and other institutions, is a major partner in the LiteBIRD mission, a strategic large-class space science mission scheduled for launch in the mid-2030s. LiteBIRD is under preparation for JAXA/ISAS Mission Definition Review (MDR), followed by JAXA/ISAS Phase A. The successful candidate will work on LiteBIRD, and lead the CMB instrumentation and simulation/data analysis preparation efforts at Kavli IPMU in collaboration with Kavli IPMU members, including the Center for Data-Driven Discovery (CD3) and the LiteBIRD collaboration. Junior candidates will be considered for a project assistant professor position, while exceptionally qualified candidates will be considered for a project associate professor position. Although the position is primarily focused on the LiteBIRD mission, we are interested in candidates with broad interests and a willingness to engage with researchers across a wide range of disciplines.
Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe (Kavli IPMU), The University of Tokyo Institutes for Advanced Study, is an international research institute with English as its official language established in October 2007. The goal of the institute is to discover the fundamental laws of nature and to understand the universe from the synergistic perspectives of mathematics, theoretical and experimental physics, astronomy, and statistics. Kavli IPMU offers a highly collaborative and international environment. The institute hosts more than 1000 international visitors annually, and fosters new collaborations through daily interdisciplinary interactions, such as the well-known 3 pm “tea time.”
