Parliamentary Vice-Minister of MEXT Hidehiro Mitani visits Kavli IPMU

Last Tuesday, July, 6, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (and also Parliamentary Secretary of Cabinet Office, and Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Reconstruction) Hidehiro Mitani visited the Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe (Kavli IPMU).

Kavli IPMU Director Hirosi Ooguri welcomed Mitani and other guests to the institute via video link to his office in the US. After a brief introduction to the institute, Mitani engaged in discussion with Kavli IPMU researchers including Principal Investigator Masahiro Takada, Professor Hiromi Yokoyama, Project Assistant Professor Yevgeny Stadnik, and Project Researcher Jingjing Shi.

Mitani asked questions to Stadnik and Shi about what motivated them to take up research at Kavli IPMU, and then followed by asking Takada and Yokoyama about where Japanese researchers go to after finishing up at Kavli IPMU, and about science career advice for female junior and high school students.

Finally, Deputy Director Tomiyoshi Haruyama gave Mitani a tour of the institute, including seminar rooms, the Piazza Fujiwara, and the library.
