Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe (Kavli IPMU, WPI)
The University of Tokyo Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe (Kavli IPMU, WPI) Professor Masahiro Takada has been appointed as the institute’s newest deputy director. Takada began his term officially on September 1.
Takada’s field of expertise is observational cosmology, and he has contributed to several significant findings while at the Kavli IPMU, including using weak gravitational lensing to study the clumpiness of the dark matter in the universe, to using the Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) on the Subaru Telescope to study primordial black holes. He has been a leading figure in the cosmology field, and is currently the leader of the Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program science working group, and leader of the Prime Focus Spectrograph science working group.
The new deputy director says he will use his research experience to help run the institute.
