IPMU celebrated its 2nd anniversary on October 1, 2009. Since its launch in October 2007, the young institute has firmly established its place as a world premier international research center. In the 2nd year, particular emphasis was made to further improve its research environment. Internationalization of the institute has further been promoted. As of October 2009, the number of researchers including joint-appointments rose to 125, of which 48 have foreign nationalities.
During the past year, seven international conferences and 156 seminars took place. 372 visitors came to IPMU and 103 were from abroad. 178 papers were written since the launch and some of which were published in prestigious journals such as Nature and Science.
The progress and future guidelines were addressed by the director’s "State of IPMU" speech at the all-hands meeting for IPMU members and PI meeting for principal investigators which was followed, of course, by a big birthday celebration.
