Hitoshi Murayama, Professor at the University of California, Berkeley, and Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe (Kavli IPMU, WPI), has been appointed as the 2024 Miller Senior Fellow, it was announced by UC Berkeley’s Miller Institute for Basic Research in Science.

The Miller Institute is dedicated to research and investigation into basic science, and was established in 1943 following the donations by former UC Berkeley Economics professor Adolph C. Miller and his wife Mary Sprague Miller.

The Miller Senior Fellowship was established in 2008, and invites a selected group of UC Berkeley faculty members into the institute to enhance their interaction with other Fellows, particularly young scientists at the postdoctoral stage, and provides him or her with significant discretionary research funds.

“Since the establishment of the Miller Senior Fellowship in 2008, 12 leading Berkeley faculty members, including three Nobel laureates, have been selected as Senior Fellows. As the 13th Senior Fellow I feel extremely honored to join this list. The Miller Foundation has been a wonderful supporter of interdisciplinary research, establishing other positions like the Miller Professor and Miller Postdoctoral Fellowship, and I look forward to my future interactions with other members,” said Murayama.
